Science Museum Field Trip funded by Target

Last week, we took the entire second grade to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. Field trips were cut several years ago due to budgetary issues, but thanks to the Target Field Trip Grant I applied for back in August, our students were able to experience authentic, hands-on learning.

  5. Hello Grade Two in Texas
Thank you for visiting our class blog. We were very happy to make our first blogging friends from somewhere else in the world.
We are very lucky because we go on an excursion each term. We also go on camp in Year Two. Do you go to camp?
We have some questions about your excursion.
    What is the Grossology Room?
How long did it take to get to the Science Centre?
Did you learn about any experiments that we could do too?
    cheers

  6. Hi Ms. Lockyer's class! We do not go to camp. In fact, this is the first year our school has gone on a field trip in a very long time. Thanks to Target we were able to go to the science museum. The Grossology exhibit has all kids of hands on and interactive activities that taught us about ouur bodily functions (hence the name 'grossology":-) The science museum is located in the cultural district of Fort Worth where there are many world-class museums and theaters. It is about 20 minutes from our school. We took school buses to get there. We did a lot of hands on activities that taught us about light, sound, and force/motion. We also got to see a 4D movie about what is inside the earth. Here are a few science activites we have done in the classroom this year: http://www.frugalteacher.com/2012/01/spin-roll-and-slide.html

School is almost out for us, but I will be sure and keep up with your blog during my summer vacation!
